Before
forming Light Perceptions Bruce Kirk was the Managing Director of
Lighting Technology Projects a lighting design and installation company
which he formed in 1993 as part of the Lighting Technology Group.
The
British Museum
In 1995 Bruce designed a new lighting scheme for the Duveen Gallery at
the British Museum, which dramatically improved the quality of the
display and reduced energy and maintenance costs to one fifth of
previous levels. Recently Bruce has been appointed by the museum
to carry out a lighting audit reviewing all the gallery lighting.
The scheme was "Commended" in the 1995 Lighting Industry Federation
Awards
The
Albert Memorial
In the late 1990s Bruce worked with manufacturers Astralux to design
a new range of high intensity searchlight fittings which were called
"ARC". The new luminaries were used in a number of high profile exterior
illumination schemes. In 2000 the range was chosen for
the illumination of The Albert Memorial, designed by Graham Phoenix.
The scheme won an "Award of Excellence" in the 2000 National Lighting
Design Awards and an "Award of Merit" from the International Association
of Lighting Designers.
St
Mary's Church Ealing
Bruce began working on the design for new lighting at St Mary's in 1998
although work did not start on site until some five years later.
The scheme is designed to complement the sophisticated interior of this
outstanding Teulon restoration by architects Thomas Ford & Partners.
The project received a "Civic Trust" award in 2004 and the lighting scheme was "Commended" in the 2005 Lighting Design
Awards.
All
Saints Carshalton
The Doomsday Book records a church at Carshalton which was probably
built on an ancient pagan site. The tower is Saxon and the nave
was built in the 12th century with further additions over the subsequent
five centuries. In the 19th and 20th centuries Carshalton's
Rectors forged a direction and purpose that resulted in this
extraordinary and unique interior which was completed by Fr Corbould in
the early 20th century Corbould's friendship with Sir Ninian
Comper began a long series of remarkable embellishments: a fine aumbry
at the high altar; the gilding and painting of the high altar triptych,
the Lady altar reredos, the rood and the screen, as well as the
construction and decoration of an astonishing organ tribune at the west
end. The lighting scheme completed in 2005 is magnificently rich
with reproduction electroliers designed to complement the fine interior
and exemplify the beauty of the extravagant decoration.
The lighting scheme was "Highly Commended" in the 2007
Lighting Design Awards winning second place after St Paul's Cathedral.
St
Paul's Cathedral
Light Perceptions is immensely proud to have been part of the team
of consultants involved in the relighting of St Paul's Cathedral which
was carried out as part of a five year internal cleaning project. The
cathedral was last relit in the late 1950s and the new installation is a
significant and prestigious addition to the beautiful interior of St
Paul's.
Working
with Martin Stancliffe Architects and the Lighting Architects Speirs and
Major; Light Perceptions was commissioned to carry out a series of
feasibility studies, devise the lighting control system and manage the
installation process on behalf of the Cathedral.
The lighting scheme was the inevitable "Winner" in the 2007 Lighting
Design Awards.
