The design of lighting for churches and other listed buildings is a unique opportunity to combine some of the best of modern technology with the heritage and legacy of an historic building.

New lighting schemes for churches and listed buildings are often required only at the end of the life of an existing system which may have been in place for many years.  Thus it is appropriate to expect a new scheme to last for an equivalent length of time.  The approach to lighting design is therefore very different from other commercial or industrial applications where the life expectancy may be much less.

The choice of light fittings, controls and installation materials must be made carefully and in sympathy with the architecture and fabric of the building.

Specifications for new lighting schemes in listed buildings may need to be presented to various public and amenity bodies before permissions can be granted for the work to proceed.  These may include English Heritage, Diocesan Advisory Committees or Historic Churches Committees.

Light Perceptions specifications are fully detailed and can be used as part of submissions for approvals and also for tendering.
