Light Perceptions

Project Type: Gallery Lighting Project
Exhibition Designers: At Large
Completed: July 2011
Case Study No: 3295

This is a new gallery dedicated to the history and development of The East India Company. It was the first gallery in the building to be lit entirely with LEDs. The Exhibits include many traded items, the souvenirs of distant journeys and parts of the fleet of ships themselves – including canon and mastheads.

There are also many beautiful fabrics and paintings on display. All are carefully displayed and lit to exacting conservation standards which are carefully balanced with the general lighting of the other exhibits. Light Perceptions designed a new type of picture light to illuminate the large format oil paintings that dominate the gallery, reducing glare and again maintaining light to specified conservation standards.
